What we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish. There is no free will. There are no variables.” ― Chuck Palahniuk Samantha Bittman is based in Chicago, IL. She received her M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been a participant in the Skowhegan and Ox-Bow residency programs, and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art. In 2012, she was a recipient of the Chicago Artadia award. Her work has been in many exhibitions, most recently at Thomas Robertello Gallery, Western Exhibitions, and threewalls in Chicago; The Green Gallery East, Milwaukee; David Castillo Gallery, Miami; Guerrero Gallery, San Francisco, CA, and Southfirst Gallery, Brooklyn. Ryan Travis Christian was born in Oakland, CA 1983. Graduating with a B.F.A. from Northern Illinois University and now living outside of Chicago, he bides his time as an artist, curator, and muralist, amongst other things. Christian has been reviewed on Frieze, Art Papers, Time Out Chicago, The Comics Journal and Beautiful Decay. He has exhibited work @ Nudashank, CooperCole, Western Exhibitions, Cam Raleigh, Halsey McKay, and Scion Installation. Evie Falci was born in New York, NY and grew up in Brooklyn, NY where she continues to live and work. Recent exhibitions have included Up Front Feature Inc, New York, NY, Diamonds Diamonds Gallery Diet in Miami, FL, and False Idles (solo) Magic Pictures in Philadelphia, PA . Her forthcoming New York solo exhibition debut Everything All Night will at Jeff Bailey open November 22, 2013. She attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in in 2007. She was an artist in residence at the Wassaic Project in 2010 and was a recipient of the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Grant from 2011-2012. In 2013 her work was acquired by Art In Embassies to be permanently installed at the United States Embassy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in April 2014. She is a Pisces with Scorpio Rising and Moon in Scorpio. Eric Shaw (b. in Enfield, CT) creates bold and often disquieting paintings, executed exclusively in gouache. His work depicts a world of totemic grotesquery, where disaffected biomorphs lounge seductively among the detrital emblems of early modern abstraction; the waiting room of a new-age dentist in which Miró, Bosch, and Patrick Nagel sit discussing the advent of the Internet. Through the use of a self-restrictive visual vocabulary, Shaw explores the creative potential of semi-blindness and the almost pathological intrigue of obsessive reduplication. One’s eyes are one’s blinds, and only achieve second sight through the partial obfuscation of the real. Geoffrey Todd Smith deploys an array of colorful materials to create complex, vacillating spaces and surfaces in each of paintings. Within these intimate, fetishistic arrangements lurks a devotion to the challenges of abstract beauty and its ability to confound expectation and provoke desire. Smith searches, meanders and daydreams to find vibrant and colorful discoveries to entice the audience. Geoffrey Todd Smith lives and works in Chicago. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, Western Exhibitions in Chicago and Nudashank in Baltimore. His work was recently included in group shows at DCKT in New York, The DePaul Art Museum in Chicago and the Green Gallery in Milwaukee. Smith will be included in a show at the Hughes Gallery in Sydney, Australia in 2014. |
